Samsung DU6900 Best Calibrated Picture Settings

The Samsung DU6900 is a 2024 entry-level 4K television with a 60 Hz edge-lit display, HDR10+ support, Tizen smart features and useful gaming functions such as VRR, ALLM and HGiG. Tech Steve calibrated the 50-inch model and found that its factory Movie mode was already close enough to the calibrated Filmmaker Mode that the visual difference was difficult to see. His settings are worth trying for free, but they may not transfer perfectly to every unit or screen size.

Video summary

Tech Steve calibrates a 50-inch Samsung DU6900 using calibration software and shares the resulting picture controls. He reports that the television is fairly accurate from the factory and that the improvement over Movie mode is subtle, mainly involving RGB balance and lower-contrast image areas. The calibrated setup uses Filmmaker Mode with brightness at 50, contrast at 45, color at 25, tint at zero, Warm2 color tone, a two-point white-balance adjustment and a custom color space. He recommends turning Picture Clarity back on if motion looks choppy and emphasizes that calibration is specific to each individual television. The settings can be tried on other DU6900 sizes, but matching results are not guaranteed.

Bottom line

Tech Steve Takeaway

Start with the factory Movie or Filmmaker Mode before paying for professional calibration. The 50-inch DU6900 already looked accurate enough that Tech Steve could barely see a difference after calibration. Try the shared settings in a separate picture mode, compare them with the factory image and reset that mode if they do not improve your particular TV.

The Samsung DU6900 combines a 3840 x 2160 edge-lit LCD display with the Crystal Processor 4K, a 60 Hz native refresh rate and the Tizen smart platform. It supports HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG, plus VRR, ALLM and HGiG for gaming at up to 4K/60 Hz. Audio comes from a 20-watt two-channel system with Object Tracking Sound Lite and Q-Symphony compatibility.

Picture quality

On the 50-inch sample, Movie mode looked close to the completed software calibration. The calibrated Filmmaker Mode produced a more aligned RGB balance, but Tech Steve described the visible difference as very small. The Crystal Processor 4K handles the television's 3840 x 2160 output and provides upscaling for lower-resolution sources, while PurColor, Mega Contrast and Contrast Enhancer supply Samsung's color and contrast processing.

HDR performance

The DU6900 supports HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG. Dolby Vision is not supported. The available HDR picture modes include Standard, Dynamic, Eco, Movie and Filmmaker Mode.

Gaming performance

The DU6900 supports VRR, ALLM and HGiG, along with Samsung Gaming Hub for supported cloud-gaming services and connected consoles. Both HDMI inputs can accept the television's maximum native-resolution signal of 4K at 60 Hz. This is a 60 Hz television, so it is not intended for native 4K/120 Hz gaming.

Motion handling

The physical panel and maximum refresh rate at 3840 x 2160 are both 60 Hz. Motion Xcelerator is Samsung motion processing and does not turn the television into a 120 Hz display. Tech Steve recommends enabling Picture Clarity after calibration if motion otherwise appears choppy, but the preferred judder setting should be adjusted to personal taste.

Sound quality

Built-in audio is a basic 2.0-channel, 20-watt system. Object Tracking Sound Lite uses virtual processing rather than physical height speakers. Adaptive Sound can adjust processing according to the content, while Q-Symphony allows the TV speakers to operate with a compatible Samsung soundbar. HDMI eARC is available for an external audio system, but there is no listed optical digital-audio output.

Smart TV experience

Samsung Tizen OS provides Samsung TV Plus, Gaming Hub, SmartThings and Apple AirPlay. Voice support includes Bixby readiness plus compatibility with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. Connectivity includes Ethernet, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.2, two HDMI inputs and one USB-A port.

Calibration notes

These settings were generated on the 50-inch DU6900 and may not transfer perfectly to another unit or size. Use Filmmaker Mode or place the settings in an otherwise unused mode so the original Movie mode remains available for comparison. Main controls: Brightness 50; Contrast 45; Color 25; Tint 0; Color Tone Warm2; Gamma BT.1886; Gamma Level 0; Shadow Detail 0. Sharpness is left to personal preference. Two-point white balance: Red Gain 0, Green Gain -9, Blue Gain -6, Red Offset -2, Green Offset 0 and Blue Offset -1. Leave the 10-point adjustment off. Custom Color Space values: Red R50/G68/B66; Green R100/G60/B65; Blue R67/G80/B76; Yellow R50/G50/B25; Cyan R75/G50/B75; Magenta R25/G71/B75. Picture Clarity can be turned back on for smoother motion, while Contrast Enhancer and other enhancement controls can be adjusted to taste. Apply to all sources only if the same setup is wanted across both HDMI inputs. Each picture mode can be reset independently if the result is not preferable.

Size variations

All five US size variants use an edge-lit LED-backlit LCD design with 3840 x 2160 resolution and a native and maximum native-resolution refresh rate of 60 Hz. The LCD panel subtype, local-dimming zone count and peak SDR/HDR brightness are not specified by size.

50-inch — UN50DU6900FXZA: 200 x 200 mm VESA; 29.6-inch stand width; 9.3-inch stand depth; 44.1 x 27.3 x 9.3 inches with stand; 44.1 x 25.5 x 2.4 inches without stand; 21.8 pounds with stand. This is the size used for Tech Steve's calibration.

55-inch — UN55DU6900FXZA: 200 x 200 mm VESA; 32.5-inch standard stand width, with an approximately 10-inch narrow configuration listed for the corresponding manufacturer model; 9.3-inch depth; 48.6 x 29.8 x 9.3 inches with stand; 48.6 x 28.0 x 2.4 inches without stand; 25.6 pounds with stand.

60-inch — UN60DU6900FXZA: 400 x 300 mm VESA; 38-inch standard stand width or approximately 12 inches in the narrow position; 10.5-inch depth; 53.3 x 32.5 x 10.5 inches with stand; 53.3 x 30.7 x 2.4 inches without stand; 34 pounds with stand. Its narrow leg position makes it the most flexible option for smaller furniture.

65-inch — UN65DU6900FXZA: 400 x 300 mm VESA; 40.4-inch stand width; 10.5-inch depth; 57.2 x 35.6 x 10.5 inches with stand; 57.2 x 32.8 x 2.4 inches without stand; 36.2 pounds with stand.

75-inch — UN75DU6900FXZA: 400 x 400 mm VESA; 49.4-inch stand width; 12.8-inch depth; 66.0 x 39.6 x 12.8 inches with stand; 66.0 x 37.9 x 2.4 inches without stand; 57.3 pounds with stand.

The core picture processor, 60 Hz refresh limit, HDR formats, smart platform, gaming features and two-HDMI configuration remain consistent across these sizes.

What we like

  • Factory Movie mode looked close to the calibrated result on the 50-inch sample
  • Supports HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG
  • VRR, ALLM and HGiG are included for 4K/60 Hz gaming
  • Tizen includes Samsung TV Plus, Gaming Hub, SmartThings and AirPlay
  • Filmmaker Mode provides a low-processing starting point
  • HDMI eARC supports modern soundbars and AV receivers
  • The 60-inch model offers wide and narrow stand positions

What to consider

  • Native and maximum 4K refresh rate are limited to 60 Hz
  • Only two HDMI inputs are provided
  • Dolby Vision is not supported
  • Built-in audio is limited to a 2.0-channel, 20-watt system
  • No optical digital-audio output is listed
  • Calibration values from the 50-inch model may not transfer accurately to another unit or size
  • Edge-lit construction is less advanced than full-array or Mini LED alternatives

Tech Steve verdict

The Samsung DU6900 is best suited to shoppers seeking an affordable 4K smart TV with straightforward picture controls, HDR10+ support and a full Tizen app experience. Its factory Movie and Filmmaker modes can already deliver a convincing image, and the 50-inch calibration produced only a subtle improvement. Console players receive VRR, ALLM and HGiG, but the 60 Hz panel cannot display native 4K/120 Hz signals. The main compromises are the two-input HDMI layout, lack of Dolby Vision, basic 20-watt audio and edge-lit construction. Choose the size that fits the room and furniture, with the 60-inch model offering the most useful narrow stand configuration.

What makes it different

Exclusive technology

PurColor

Samsung color-processing technology intended to reproduce a broader range of color than a basic RGB-focused implementation.

4K Upscaling

Processes lower-resolution video so it can be displayed at the television's 3840 x 2160 output resolution. Samsung notes that results depend on the source and that upscaling may not apply in PC or Game Mode.

Motion Xcelerator

Samsung motion processing designed to reduce visible blur and improve motion transitions on the 60 Hz panel; it does not raise the native or native-resolution maximum refresh rate above 60 Hz.

Object Tracking Sound Lite

Uses the two-channel speaker system and virtual processing to make sound appear to follow movement on the screen; it does not indicate physical height speakers.

Mega Contrast

Dynamically adjusts picture contrast and brightness to improve separation between lighter and darker image areas.

Contrast Enhancer

Analyzes regions of an image and adjusts contrast to create a stronger impression of depth.

Q-Symphony

Allows the television speakers and a compatible Samsung soundbar to play together instead of automatically muting the TV speakers.

Adaptive Sound

Automatically adjusts sound processing according to the type of content being played.

Samsung Gaming Hub

Tizen interface that consolidates supported cloud-gaming services, connected consoles and gaming applications; service and subscription availability vary.

Samsung TV Plus

Samsung's internet-delivered free streaming channel and on-demand content service.

AI Energy Mode

Uses ambient-light information and supported SmartThings functions to adjust brightness with the goal of reducing energy use.
