Do you really need a phantom power supply for condenser mics?
Hello from Paris, thanks, nice video. Do you think that this thing is going to do the same job?
http://www.akg.com/pro/p/b48l
Dude thank you, been typing in you tube why my lexicon alpha wasn't letting my mic work, it need this and you showed how the cables worked just thanks it was so god damn hard to find a video to just freaking help me. Thank you.
Did the cables come in the box please answer Quick!
Damn it's sounded better without the phantom power. The Nady SMPS is a cheap ass choice and the quality of output sound shows. Better off just using that DSLR mic in the beginning tbh. I make music myself and started with a Nady Audio phantom box……what a bad first option from trying to save a little money. The more money you spend on gear is truly heard I've learned.
Say if you had a xlr to usb cable and you plugged it into a desktop pc would that work? thanks for the video I need to know as I don't want to spend extra money on a phantom.
Finally someone that did it propyly
so i have a bm 100fx condenser mic with a laptop and i need to purchase a 48v power phantom are u sure that's all i need ? or do i need a sound card aswell
umm.. quick question mr.TechSteveSD.. instead of using the XLR usb cable from the phantom power supply to a laptop, could I use the XLR 3.5 mm jack on the laptop? will it work?
great video . thank you!
Pretty informative, thank you.
So, in order for my AKG mic to work on my mac book I need to supply it with phantom power? I bought a Nady XLR to USB cable and was wondering why it wouldn't work. I thought that the cable would take power from the laptop and send it to the mic with no problem. I guess its not that simple. So I need to also buy a phantom power supply?
Can you use a sound card if u don't have a phantom power supply??
Sorry for stupid question possibly but can you plug the same XLR cable you used for your camera into a headphone jack for a computer?
This video is to my opinion missing some essential connecting issues when working with XLR and (stereo)(mini)jack.
1. Connecting a BALANCED microphone to an UNBALANCED input.
2. The pre-amp situation.
A Phantom power device does nothing more then powering a condensor
microphone which does not have a battery power possibilty. Ussualy this is used when people want to avoid using a mixer. However the mixer does more then offering phantom power via XLR.
In the video it seems like there is not much difference in
converting from the phantom-output to the camera or to a mixer. Although
in a mixer there is an "unbalance" converter + a pre-amp when you
connect an xlr. Also the xlr to usb seems like a cable but my guess is
that this is a cable with somehow a build-in soundcard(AD-converter +
pre-amp) as USB is not for analog sound transport. Also the cable that
showd a female-xlr to a stereo mini-jack can in reality not be hooked
from a microphone(thrugh phantom) to a camera as the camera expects
(stereo) left and right and ground and that is not what a balanced
microphone offers through XLR. The high distortions one can hear in this video when
connecting a balanced microphone output into a stereo-camera-input is
most likely caused by the balanced mono signal coming from the
microphone (through the pre-amp). a balanced microphone signal uses 3
wires. 1 for positive signal, one for opposite negative signal and one
for ground.
That all aside there is one other issue to take in account.
Sometimes phantom power is not shielded off.For instance if you direct a
headphone out into a xlr input of a mixer. (with phantom power switched
on) In that case one can seriously damage the laptop or camera or
whatever source. So PLEASE PLEASE be carefull with (mini)jack
converting to- and from XLR. It is NOT just another plug.
The article in the link below shows the DIY schematics for simple connecting xlr microphones to a camera or other stereo-(mini)jack input. If this is to complicated then use a mixer or buy a microphone with an unbalanced out (jack) and battery powered phantom or a dynamic stereo mic for camera's (low end)

Hey just so I am understanding this correctly:
I've got a NW-700 condenser microphone, XLR to XLR on the input for Nady Audio SMPS-1X, and an XLR to 3.5mm in the output, which is plugged into the microphone slot on my computer's internal PCIe sound card (Creative Sound Blaster Z). Do I need to instead do a XLR to USB to have this work on the computer?
Can you use xlr to 3.5mm in a pc
I have a friend apology interfaze UX1 Line 6 tone port and has phanton . It would be possible to put a feeder phanto those and nothing would happen ? Thank you
Thank you so much! Best tutorial on this topic yet. 😊😊😊
Can the 3.5 mm go directly into the computer and still work?
can i plug that phantom power outuput directly to my pc? please answer
can you use the soundboard with the phantom powrr
I'd like to ask. is the difference noticable if you use an XLR to USB instead of 3.5 mm and can you just connect your phantom power to usb port without making it go through an audio inteface? Like, Mic straight to phantom power straight to usb port
stupid turn off that damn music
Does it work with any condenser microphone?I have a focuscrite sm25
Hello. Can u tell me which one will give me better quality on pc? connect it with xlr to 3.5mm or with xlr to usb?
hey…can xlr-3.5mm cable be used in android? will be there any hiss?
Wow great video – is this the power supply your using? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KAPGLQC/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=chadman426-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B00KAPGLQC&linkId=41aa5cf4da1040be8f5828f3bf47a8a0
