I used to DJ at a place at Penn State that used La Scalas. Started my love for Klipsch. I still have my Klipsch pros with me and they still sound great out of my Adcom, whenever I get on the wheels of steel.
3:01 This is me. I can't believe TVs still have 10/100. Nothing but buffering from my plex. My workaround is USB to Ethernet adapter that gets me about 300+mbps. No more buffering from my Plex. The only thing though is it may have killed 1 out of my 2 USB ports. It suddenly stopped working but the other port is working. Please be our spokesperson and push for the change needed! <3 you!
Caleb, maybe i misunderstood, but i was thinking the Sonos box was a streamer/hub/decoder. It would essentially route the various channel out put to assigned Sonos speakers. It would enable using any Sonos speaker for any channel.
Great Job CHRIS⚠️••••••>THE LABOR BEHIND ALL YOUR EFFORT IS TRULY EVIDENT TO SEND: DIGITAL TRENDS•••••>OVER THA TOP REGULARLY🎉 YOU TWO CONTINUE TO TWINE TOGETHER & THAT SHALL KEEP YALL FUTURE PROOF!
I've owned several TVs and have tried all of them plugged into the Ethernet port, having much worse performance than on wifi. 100mbps should be enough, but it is not.
definitely many sony tv owners would benefit with higher speed ethernet port on TV for streaming bravia core. The Pure Stream feature requires an Internet speed of at least 43 Mbps. To enjoy at the highest speed of 80 Mbps, you need an Internet speed of 115 Mbps or faster.
I owned some of the best Pioneer and Pioneer Elite universal players, including a DV-58AV from 2007, BDP-23FD and BDP-320 from 2009, and BDP-52FD from 2011. As much as I regret parting with them, once I got into 4K UHD Blu-ray, they were just sitting there. In order to upgrade from a plasma to a Dolby Vision compatible TV, I knew I had to sell them so I could afford the new TV sooner. The only thing I'm wondering is whether or not I could have gotten more money for them if I had listed them in dedicated places other than Ebay auctions.
Caleb, I feel the same way as you about my old gear. There are a few pieces that I do plan to hang on to for a long time. However, with many of them, I want others to enjoy what I was able to enjoy so I pass them along to friends and family. Have I ever regretted doing this and not holding onto something? Well, maybe, but the joy I see in others using it more than makes up for that.
Whether A Sonos streaming Box is adding something to what is already existing is for me depending on the functionality it offers. If the box should support
– the usual video streaming services
– the current music streaming services they support in their current platform
– a media player functionality for local content
– all HDR formats, DTS and Immersive Dolby Atmos
– last but not least and most important more configuration options with their current product line of speaker systems.
As it is today only the Arc and Beam 2 support Dolby Atmos which can be extended with a pair of rears and subwoofers. To me that's a limitation.
If the streaming box also would act as a Sonos Dolby Atmos compliant hub supporting/allowing more speaker configurations it would be very interesting to me.
I would like to build a configuration with 4 or 5 ERA 300 and 2 x Gen 3 subwoofers. I expect it would give me a more immersive audio and home cinema experience compared to a configuration with the ARC, were the ARC is a serious limitation to achieve that. The ERA 300 outperforms the ARC on this expect. As far as I know Sonos is the only third party able to stream and Apple Music in Dolby Atmos. Such a configuration as I mentioned would support for me two relevant use cases:
1. Home cinema playback and streaming with Dolby Atmos.
2. Music streaming with the possibility for Dolby Atmos Spatial Audio.
This controlled with one Sonos app (assuming Sonos will repair the current issues) would very comfortable.
Currently I stream Apple Music spatial audio via an Apple TV 4 to my Dolby Atmos compliant Homecinema receiver with B&W 8 series speakers and 2 Rell subs. That sounds ok, but the user interface controlling the Apple with an iPhone without switching on a TV is rather clumsy. Amazing how a 3 trillion-dollar company is still not able to build a seamless interface/app to support a logical use case for (spatial) music playback.
I had the opportunity to have a Sonos system with an Arc, 2 ERA 300 and 2 Gen 3 subs sitting for 2 months next to my traditional system.
To my surprise the Sonos system with the ERA 300 outperformed my traditional system on Homecinema surround. The surround soundstage is much more immersive and powerful. The ERA 300's are the differentiator, they deliver a strong performance on this aspect. The Arc on its own with Subs is not that impressive and is just a soundbar with its limitations.
On Music playback it's just the other way around. In that case the B&W's with the Rell's deliver a much stronger, more detailed and more musical/open soundstage. On the low end also the GEN 3 deliver a solid performance and came very close to the Rell's.
I am looking now for a system that's less intrusive into the living of our new house. Because for me this is now the main disadvantage of having traditional Homecinema system.
This is the reason I am wondering how a complete set up with 4 or 5 ERA 300 and 2 Gen 3 subs controlled by a supporting hub/box would perform and could replace my current traditional system with out to many sacrifices.
All TV manufacturers must have 8GB of RAM and 512GB of Internal Storage with a Gigabit port for their TV's that cost from $1,000 USD and up.
Nowadays it is practical to use platforms like GFORCE NOW, XBOX GAME PASS without having to use a console or a streaming devices, hopefully by 2025 net TV's models came withbthos specs
The growth of these platforms for games without tje need of XBOX or PlayStation is the present and future.
I think the Google TV Streamer might be the best we get this year. Would love a refreshed Shield or one from Sonos, but seems like only Google and Onn are keeping retail Google/Android TV streaming devices alive.
Wouldn’t Xbox benefit from a higher bandwidth port so they could suggest the TVs that have there Xbox subscription have a higher bandwidth to stream games on. Just a thought
Still using the original NVIDIA Shield 2015. Both the "pro" version with the hard drive, and the "regular" version, "because it doesn't." I've actually got two of each. NO plans whatsoever of moving to anything else. Then again, I'm not doing anything with those "new technologies" that these don't support. Caleb and Digital Trends videos look just fine through them. And if you're watching YouTube videos on TV sets, I recommend nothing but Android TV, or Google TV if you must. Having alternatives to the "official" apps make a WHOPPING difference for the better.
1gb is a great idea but for 99% of people it's pointless. The only people who will argue it are PLEX or nas users but I guarantee they'll run in to buffering due to slow SOC or low RAM before hitting anything close to 150mbps let alone 1gb.
Only thing in a android box for sonos is the data collection to sell usage of the app and phone data. A lot of money in that if they partner with a box maker and slap there own badge on it.
Was wondering how one submits a question for consideration. Feel free to comment as I'd love to hear others opinions on this topic. I'm not really sure who's to blame but when I need to turn on Subtitles for foreign or mixed language content I do not need descriptive video ( I can hear the "dog barking" thanks) or subtitles for my preferred language. Started watching The Killer on Prime but stopped watching for this very reason. Is it just me that finds this unnecessarily annoying.
Disney has IMAX enhanced that uses DTS audio. Not a single streaming box supports IMAX Enhanced. There really needs to be one that gets up there and maybe offer at least wifi6e if they don't want to put an ethernet cable that is faster.
Is Sonos rumored "streaming box" actually an HT-A9 style control box that allows TV sounds to be sent to the box, then wireless transmitted to Sonos speakers? If true that would be a very interesting concept. One such box plus 4x Era 300 plus one or more Sonos sub will be an awesome Dolby Atmos home theater combo, potentially much better than the current "ultimate surround set" based on Arc.
Hi hi Chris, Caleb, thanks a lot for all your efforts, you're one of the few channels I trust to give us genuinely zero commercial bias (we all have our own personal bias such as our opinion on what makes a good tv or monitor and that's fine) also, I know its kind of childish and I turn 40 this year, I am also very aware these segments are called You Ask but the segment name in Caleb's accent never fails to make this Australian chuckle "Welcome to this episode of You Ass" lol, always cheers me up.
Oh i wish i could even get 500Mbps download speeds but currently I'm getting 140Mbps speeds and that's a recent upgrade from70Mbps a year or so ago. Fixed wireless connection at my place.
Thanks Chris! These episodes have been phenomenal in helping people understand the complexities of modern TVs.
Thanks Chris, the hard work and detail is much appreciated.
Thanks, Chris!
Thanks Chris and Caleb for these videos!!!

Ethernet connexion from TV sucks and updates are way to slow to install too…
Thanks Chris!!

Man i wish i could buy “stupid” tv’s that only do picture, sound and no “smart” functions…All those integrated functions are shit anyways..
Love your content! Could you make a video comparing home theater speakers with DJ speakers?
It would be awesome to see a breakdown of the pros and cons for different use cases. Thanks!
The DJ speakers i vote for are (RCF NX 945a / art 945a)
that marantz in the picture looks like some reseller dude's house in the philippines. which is pretty common. we have collectors here too.
Thank you, Chris. You a real one. 🔥🔥🔥
Nvidia … not only video codecs, also sound … for true-hd, dts-hd etc for lossless passtrough, nvidia is still the only? way to go.

Looking forward to you reviewing the new $100 Google 4K streamer when it comes out. I want to know if I should grab it over the Onn 4K pro

Sonos making a STB woooooooppppppy another piece of crap that can go in their strash heap

They should be focused on fixing the app problem, before coming out with new crap.

Is This Hisense QD7 Any Good?
Thanks for the shout-out! I think I see the perfect open spot on that shelf behind you for one of our Marantz receivers. 😄

Correction. The Nvidia Shield Tv was released in 2015, making it 9 years old.
Not 5 years old 🙂
how do we get friends like you?

That felt so short, it was all over in a swish of the tail of a cat named Ether 🐈😥
I love your mention of the Dynaco equipment. I bought mine new as kits in the 1970's. Seems I could never get rid of mine either.
