TCL Z100 vs TCL Z100-SW: Which One Should You Buy?
The TCL Z100 is a self-powered 1.1.1-channel wireless speaker designed to expand compatible TCL televisions into a modular Dolby Atmos FlexConnect system. Automatic calibration accounts for speaker placement, and TV Ensemble keeps the television’s speakers active. Tech Steve found that two rear Z100 speakers delivered the most noticeable first upgrade, three produced a fuller budget-friendly presentation, and four created the most complete experience. The optional Z100-SW adds deeper bass, but every component requires AC power and the system offers limited manual speaker adjustment.

Z100-SW Wireless Subwoofer with Dolby Atmos FlexConnect
A compact powered subwoofer with a 5.25-inch woofer that integrates into compatible TCL FlexConnect systems through automatic calibration.
Key technology
Buyer advantages
- The 5.25-inch woofer adds deeper low-frequency output than the Z100 speakers provide by themselves, giving movies and games more impact.
- Wireless signal transmission allows flexible placement without running a separate subwoofer audio cable.
- Automatic calibration accounts for the subwoofer’s position alongside the television and paired Z100 speakers.
- The compact 9.61-inch-wide enclosure is easier to accommodate than many traditional home-theater subwoofers.
Things to consider
- The Z100-SW is sold separately and is not included with an individual Z100 speaker.
- It is designed for a compatible TCL FlexConnect system rather than use as a universal standalone subwoofer.
- The subwoofer requires an AC outlet despite receiving its audio signal wirelessly.
- It has no HDMI, eARC, optical, analog or Bluetooth music input.
- No physical crossover, phase or level controls are provided beyond the pairing control.
- Adding the subwoofer consumes a supported paired-device position in the television’s Speaker Management system.

Which one should you buy?
The Z100 is best for owners of compatible TCL televisions who want surround and height effects without installing speaker wire or replacing the TV speakers with a conventional soundbar. One or two speakers provide an accessible starting point, while three or four can build a broader, more immersive soundstage. Its biggest tradeoffs are ecosystem lock-in, an AC outlet requirement for every enclosure and minimal manual adjustment. The Z100-SW is the right addition for homeowners and dedicated-room users who want stronger movie and game bass, but it is not a universal subwoofer and occupies one of the system’s supported paired-device positions. Apartment users or shoppers satisfied with moderate bass can reasonably skip it.
