Which TV has the best picture quality overall for HDR movies and HDR gaming? If am correct Gaming mode is better for latency for online shooting games but from what I understand Game mode cuts down on picture quality? I am not really a hardcore online gamer, I might play something like PUBG once in a while just for fun. I've been seeing the Hisense 55" on sale for 748… Only thing for me about the TCL doesn't come in 55" so I would have to get a 65" which I've been seeing on sale for 1,098.
The 10-bit panel thing was a lie! TCL admitted it is 8 bit + FRC.
I see you said on the TCL you can't adjust your local dimming zones but can you turn the brightness setting down? Thank you!!!
That was a great comparison of two great TVs. I pick the TCL QM8. New subscriber! Thanks Tech Steve!
TCL has a better picture in the side by sides almost every time. I recently purchased the TCL when Amazon had a short price drop to $901. Very happy with it so far. Waiting for a TCL QM8 calibration video for normal consumers. There isn't a good one out there yet.
I think picture quality is amazing TCL 👍
Can you tell me if both tv are compatible with airplay 2 ?
Hello great review..which one do you think is better in a brighter room?
Hi Steve,
Which camera can I install on the Hisense U8K?
Thank you in advance for your answer.
Regards from Colombia
Witch have better price, all this tv are very good
I bought qm8 because was with 200 euro less than u8k
How much of a difference is the panel bit count 8 vs 10? Is it obvious?
Which best picture?
Both TVs are 900 each.. which one should I get???
I watched this video several times and I’m still no closer to picking out a new tv because to me, they both look good. The TCL has a slight edge on picture but the Hisense has the best sound. If only there was a way to combine both sets into one
Hey Steve question I’m looking to get a new tv for Netflix streaming shows I’m not trying to be too cheap, i seen the insignia TVs at Best Buy, i see people post about tcl and hi sense. Which one should i go with under $400?
I think the hisense has a perfect balance of pricing with the features ,the tcl does have better picture quality because of that contrast but to me that wont be enough to attract me.
Brighter doesnt always mean better.
Do you know why the energy rating for the tcl is almost double the hisense or any tv in that class for that matter. I feel a lot of reciews leave this part out
What I hear is that the TCL has upscaling issues.
Which one has the better black bars?
Excellent Review sir! I was actually out looking for a 65" TV for my Bar/Lounge area of my home. My criteria: Overall solid PQ, mostly in a darker environment, although there are windows in there. Sound Quality was a BIG factor as I do not want to use a soundbar as I am hanging it and want to limit extra mounting and additional peripherals and Best Bang for my Buck. Initially a VERY helpful and knowledgeable salesman at Best Buy (who ironically is from Japan and Sony certified), when I gave him my criteria, showed me the TCL. It was very impressive! In fact, I was prepared to buy it. Unfortunately they had none new in box for sale. Not even for ordering online. A testimony to the popularity of this TV. I need the TV now for a big NEW YEARS EVE party we are hosting at my home. So at the latest, would be 2 days from now. He then said, you know what, we have a really nice Hisense that is super comparable. Although they were not side by side, when I watched content on the U8K, my eyes were just as impressed and I have really good vision without need for glasses. Although we did not test out the sound quality, on paper, the U8K clearly wins in this important area for me. Plus, it was new in the box ready to go. So I bought it for $900 (same price as the QM8).
I also read a detailed review on RTINGS that I have trusted for many years. They pointed out that the U8K was better out of the box without calibration. That is VERY appealing to me as well. They also have it edging out the TCL very slightly. Splitting hairs really.
I do know a thing or two about TV.s and great PQ as I currently own a Sony BRAVIA XR X95K and a Epson 5050UB in my Home Theater showing on a 135" Silver Screen,
Response to 1:03 to 1:09 – TCL panels are made by its own subsidiary CSOT (Schenzhen China Star Optoelectronics Technology Co. ltd). It uses its own AIPQ 3.0 processor with as per TCL has AI features…
TCL S5 is better than QM8 mainly because the calibration is SOO MUCH EASIER than the QM8
I went with the QM8 and I love it. Having a ps5, Xbox and soundbar, the dedicated earc port was a necessity for me.
hate how you angle the tvs in your comparrisons vids at times…always makes the closer one look better
This has to be hands down the best vs. video for these two models I've seen to date. And I've seen a few.
I keep leaning toward the TCL. It's screen just seems to have more vibrance and depth. Sometimes it is over-saturated. But, I'm certain that can be tamed down in the settings.
Is there an option to resize display on either of the TVs. Wanted use a single display for close and far off use
Really liked that you display technology VA IPS for all sizes at the beginning and the technical details at first that was really good intro. I was left wondering the significance of 10 bit panel over 8 bit FRC.
I've been using Oled tvs and I think it's time to switch to Mini Leds because there's Black Crush on OLEDs in scenes that have dark scenes. Like if you play horror games you're losing a lot of details with OLEDs yes blacks look black but other gray colors look black too.
This guy is paid by TCL. The u8k is not that dim . This is a bad comparison.
The qm8 stand is great . U can get away with small home entertainment until. The qm8 look better. But i think the hisense got better features and more control of them. The hisense seems to have better sound. Both tvs are very close. It comes down to what u desire in your overall experience. Both have there pro's and issues. hisense needs give u a smaller stand like the tcl and give u more 2.1 hdmi ports. The tcl need to give u more control. And both need to fix there tone mapping, motion handling . They will hurting the big tv's making bad.
Dude don’t you watch before you release. How many times did you call the TCL Hisense?
TCL looks more punchy with the colors and definitely much brighter
Hi @TechSteve , is it me or this guy stole you your video? … 🤔https://youtu.be/GOYBer-Urkk?si=kaAQ7cYnyeRULKqc&t=34
Man i was more interested in the qm8 before this, but the settings and the sound system of the hisense is really selling me. Thank you for the great comparison. Earned my subscription
I got the U8K because I wanted a 55". Got it brand new for $675 and I have zero regrets.
They both look like they crush the details out by being too dark in dark areas.
Having watched this comparison in May 2024 due to both models now been on offer
as the new version arrive for me the TCL would be better for the content that i watch.
I never play games and i have a good seperates system for Dolby Atmos and DTS.
The issue i have with Hisense is that the versions sold here in the UK are not the same
spec as the USA ones.
The major difference is the o/s that they use, we get their own Vidaa instead of
Android / Google and this makes the Hisense a no go, you cant add or remove apps
as you can with Google.
Thankfully TCL stick with Google so this swings it for me.
Thanks for the best comparison that i have found on Youtube.
Can you cast the image from a Samsung Galaxy phone to the TCL? I remember hearing that Samsung phones do not allow casting/mirroring unless it's a Samsung television…
The hisense looks like it has a white film over a little washed out.. The QM8 looks better blacks as you can see on main screen. the blacks look grey on the hisense. I will be using an android box. Which tv does upscaling better? (doesn't have to be these) 23/24 model?
Excellent Video
Never thought TCL would make a tv so nice. Picture looks great. But I RARELY use a bright picture in my dark tomb of a room. Plus the sound is not even close. I would probably go with the Hisense for my needs, but REALLY need to see them in person. The only thing you left out of your review is projected quality. Do they have a track record of reliability? Pretty means nothing if they are buggy or in the trash in two years but good review overall 👍
Best video out there, very very detailed.
Going with the QM8; thank you.
Honestly if I am shelling out $1500.00 or so for a t.v. Its audio output would not be a big concern. I probably would swing for another hundred or so for a serviceable sound bar.
@techsteve, would you choose U7N (2024) over the QM8 (2023)?
This is my dilemma now.
Also, these 85-inch TVs have less dimming zones than the 75-inch version…
Plesse i have question.. Hisense have 1000 dimming zones. Tcl qm8 has no dimming zones only qm8B or???
I bought 2 TCL tvs and both spoilt within warranty period. I’m a super light user. It is a nightmare waiting for them to make good of their warranty where I’m still waiting after months! I have written emails to their company to no avail.
