We recently bought the 77″ OLED Samsung S90D from Costco, and honestly… it is fantastic. The picture quality is jaw-dropping, the colours are vivid, and the contrast is next-level. But as incredible as it is, I don’t think it’s the right choice for everyone.
In this video I break down my experience with this massive OLED screen and explain why spending more money on a high-end TV doesn’t always guarantee a better viewing experience. In fact, depending on how you watch your content, you might not be getting your money’s worth from a screen this advanced.
I’ll go over the biggest pros and cons, why your content source matters, and what you might want to invest in instead.
If you’re considering upgrading to a premium OLED, especially from Costco, you’ll want to watch this first!
Here’s what I regret about my OLED TV (That no one warned me about)!

You are 1000% correct that's why I have not brought one of these high TVs yet, like yourself I use streaming devices. The Onn 4k pro box and 3rd Gen fire cube, and you're spot on. The signal coming to the TV doesn't match the signal coming out, and you can't truly enjoy what the TV is capable of. Not to mention when you're watching live TV most networks, are still broadcasting in 720 and 1080P. That's why I just buy a regular 4K-smart TV and with the money saved, I spend a few hundred on some quality budget speakers, that do the job. Great video bro 🍻 I've been waiting on someone to be honest when doing a TV review.
This is exactly why a Sony OLED stands out, its renowned image processing handles motion and low-quality streaming content like YouTube with unmatched finesse, outperforming both Samsung and LG. While all OLEDs shine with 4K or high-quality content, only Sony truly excels at handling lower-quality signals.
Nice info. As far as picture goes In the John Wick scene, it looks like you have your smooth motion turned on, that needs to be turned off ASAP
Does Samsung have better quality control than lg
S90f 77 also has an issue where the power supply dies. Mine died 5 months in. Google "s90f 77 power supply" and see all the posts and comments about people having issues with it
I’m debating whether I should go with 83 or 77 please advise me what should I go with ?
Not following when you use the term "high quality TV box". Are you saying streaming Prime, Paramount+, Disney, Apple, or Netflix content from something like a Roku when the content is supposed to be 4K falls short of expectations? Are our eyes even capable of seeing the difference? Were any settings tweaked to improve performance? Was any calibration done on your TV or was it just straight out of the box with no adjustments?
Can you site some examples of specific scenes that would demonstrate what you see along with the device that was used to watch it? Some reviewers use specific scenes to show shadow and specular highlight performance. But that is typically with Blu-Ray discs. I'm curious about movie performance and live TV over something like YouTube TV, Sling, or Hulu + Live TV.
This is true of most 4k TVs, they are designed to give the best possible image at their native resolution, upscaling is an expensive extra that only Sony do well. I still use my Pioneer plasma to watch SD and HD content, my LG is useless at upscaling.
No just thing as how the content attend. In addition, be careful of burn in. LCDs can get something like burn in but it is very very rare now. You have a better chance of seeing a dog doing squats and pushups.
You are using the wrong settings as you can clearly see from your videos. You cannot judge a TV if you are not prepared to set it up properly. TVs often have an accurate "Filmmaker" mode, such as on my Panasonic Z95B.
So for gaming, blu ray movies and streaming, you do recommend?
I got my 77S90D 4 months ago for $991.90 from Sam’s Club and matched it with the Samsung 990F soundbar for 980 from Woot, right now I have it attached to a 4k FireTV and a 4K AppleTV. Match made in heaven.
My neighbours'd be impressed by a 200 euro plywood guitar from Argos, so I don't rely on their judgement. I knew someone who couldn't tell the difference between a DVD picture on a CRT and a Blu-ray playing through a full HD wide-screen TV. Couldn't give a stuff about what "impresses the neighbours".
Wtf wat hes TV in 2025
3 years ago I wasted thousands buying Samsung and LG Oleds. In the end. I either sold them on FB or returned to the store and went with Samsung Neo QLED. When you see OLEDs in the store. These are high quality preloaded videos running on the screen. I have YouTube TV. The picture was horrible on an OLED. Very good on Neo QLED. OLED colors are harsh on my eyes. Red was too red, the blue was too blue. I found it difficult to get a great picture. With the Neo QLED. The picture is perfect all the time.
I am struggling between this 77 LG C5 now going for $1900, or go for 85 inch Bravia 5 for $1700. I really wanted a 85 for my living room but thinking better to get quality over a litter bigger frame
Bahahahahaha look at you pretending you have a wife 💏👬
Buys 77” OLED…….complains about how news footage looks crappy on 3rd party app 🤦🏻♂️
We are planning on doing a theatre room. We watch movies usually on the weekends and I like to watch college basketball and football through Hulu live . After watching their review would this tv not be great for watching my sports?
Are there comparison videos for streaming vs cable box for 4k sports
You mounted your TV with a down tilt. Your opinions are invalid.
Tell that to my dad who watches 720p or lower content but wants to buy expensive TV
Allora prendi l'lg g5 che rimasterizza le immagini mentre le guardi facendo vedere bene anche contenuti scarsi!
Do you think I should buy a Samsung s90f or an LG c5? I want one for both the bedroom and the living room, and both rooms are very bright and have lots of light!
Thx
I had to watch this since I’m so close to getting a 75 inch from Costco. But now after this, I may go for a much cheaper $550 lg or TCl LED rather than spending $1800 on an OLED
My tv died this morning while playing a game and went straight to best buy and bought probably this model, it was a 77" oled but I do game a lot so I'm happy with what your video had to say, but I use to install Directv so I do fully understand where you are coming from with what the tv is meant for.
Anyone who has their couch front facing a tv is autistic. Gotta have it perpendicular so you can lay down on the couch and watch/game like a real man
Is firestick a high resolution streaming device for live streaming/tv?
My S95F was just delivered yesterday.
im on 32" atm considering options.. where to go? what to buy? 😉
3:44 Video link for this where the cat is on the pond? Or is this from a streaming service?
If you care about media just buy the OLED. You won't regret it. Save up and pay cash. Slowly upgrade your audio system and 4K Blu-Ray collection over time. In the end quality wins.
At least here in Sweden. So some people may think that TV via satellite and perhaps secondarily via cable TV gives the best picture, at least if we are talking about regular HDTV. There are also some 4K channels on the European market. 1080i does not seem to be available via IPTV?
It could also be about TV settings, you probably shouldn't have any noise reduction activated or a function to reduce digital artefacts. Then you might have heard about getting what you pay for. Even in the USA, you might find forums where people discuss what gives the best TV picture from TV channels. And then it might not be the service you use.
You can actually try using the apps on the TV too. It may be that an app may be optimized or a different setting for a certain streaming service applies well to Netflix on Sony TV.
Some streaming services apparently have hdr10 plus for Samsung TVs, but then you also have to use the apps that are built into the TV.
The question is what scales up the image best, your TV or a connected Box. If it's an expensive TV, then maybe the TV does it better.
You may have a screen that is too big. If you are watching a regular HD TV, you may not want a screen larger than 68 inches at a distance of 3 meters.
What scales up the image best your TV or your Nvidia shield. Could it be that maybe the TV would do it better? And then it might not just be about the details but also other things in the image.
Try to see without Nvidia shield What is the result or without having upscaling activated in Nvidia shield. Then you probably shouldn't have noise reduction activated and not a lot of contrast either. There are probably suggestions for TV settings out there
There is a problem with Sonos. It does not support DTS. Lots of blu-ray movies for example have DTS HD Master. Sure, another device might be able to convert it to PCM. But you can't get DTSX that way, right?
Here in Sweden my cable TV operator said that the streaming service is streamed from them. and I actually think that it is a picture is better than from the streaming service's own app. I experience the depth and purity, among other things, which is better in some way. my cable TV operator has something called play channels.
.
Note: I don't have a 4K TV yet so I'm talking about the quality of a full HD TV.
Sony also has a wireless speaker system
Thank you. This has helped me made my choice!
