Wow the front of that one looks exactly like the one that was on Northwest Hwy in Dallas, TX. They had a bunch of statues of longhorn cattle behind that balcony too. If I think about it, I can still remember the layout of that entire store. I think my heart broke a little when I heard they all closed, I remember they were having supply issues a lot and their shelves were all but empty. I bought many things from them I'm still using to this day, also bought my dad his first flatscreen TV from there which he is also still using. Many good memories, will miss them.
The impact of Covid, very sad to see.
The corniest part is that they didn't even discount their few, remaining products. I went to a couple of my locations thinking they might have some deals since they were obviously going under and nope. Everything they had was overpriced.
Thanks for the video. Really miss Fry's
Thanks for taking footage of this location. I have a very faint memory of my dad taking me to the Atlantis themed Fry's in San Marcos, in the San Diego area. Fry's as a whole was really great, and I miss it.
This really sucks that was my store
I went to the Burbank fry’s all the time 😭😭😭😭 I miss it so much
Over the last 5 years I watched the Fry's in Austin go into decline until it closed last year. It was sad. I had a lot of great memories.
I stopped by the Fry's here outside of Seattle about two weeks before they closed and the store looked pretty much the same. I remember when it was packed full of employees and customers, but that day I saw two employees (one wandering and one working a single register where there was a bank of about twenty) and maybe two other customers.
I went in to see if they had any mechanical keyboards; they had one that I'd never heard of. The area where they used to have all sorts of assembled (and boxed) furniture was a big open space. The restaurant was (obviously) shut. What little stock they had was almost all no-name labels. The whole car electronics section was roped off and inaccessible. The appliance section was empty. No CDs, DVDs, BDs, or video games on the shelves. At one point that roaming employee (who I assume was a manager) asked me if I needed any help. I think she was lonely.
When I got home I looked up what was going on, and it sounds like Fry's had gone to a consignment model because they didn't want to keep buying inventory of electronics that would be obsoleted in months, so they required companies to ship merchandise for free with Fry's paying after the items sold. Understandably, at least the well-known companies didn't want to do that leaving Fry's with cheap knockoff crap to sell. I was completely unsurprised when I heard a few weeks later that they had all shut down.
It was sad, but also not. Even in their heyday I thought their employees were often rude and lacking in knowledge of the items they were selling. But it was still that one place you could go to when you needed some otherwise obscure piece of equipment, and after Radio Shack shut down it became the only place left that people could buy electronic components like resistors and capacitors and random cables and connectors.
Thanks for sharing. I do disagree on the statement that the "Internet" did this. I think if we had a chance to look further into the internal operations of Frys electronics, we would find bad bookkeeping, internal theft and bad purchasing decisions leading to its downfall. What always struck me as crazy was just how bad their online ordering website was. It looked terribly outdated and operated on a platform that was probably around 20 years old. Additionally, all the internal systems that did lookups and sales were also 20 plus year old technology. This signifies a serious lack of internal money expenditure to support their business. This is why that company never went public and always remained privately owned.
This is the same fry I went with my mom and dad and buy a tv
My first real job was at this exact store. Remember when it was Incredible Universe?
Aw, I will miss shopping there.😪
People did come in those stores😂
damn bro as a kid I used to love going to the one in Burbank it was so much fun.
Wow😢
Not going to lie frys was over priced tho 🤷🏾♂
Worked right There in SD.
Instead of hanging myself, I just quit working there, VQ.
Top 2 horrid jobs I've ever encountered.
I worked in the AV section 10 years ago and it was a dying brand even in 2012. I hate a lot of people lost their jobs/careers but it was seriously time for Fry's to go away. They were stuck in the past for real. The only real valuable part of their store was the actual computer components and service section which became less relevant since people can shop online for parts.
Dammmn, big ballin. Is that your 8 series behind you???
My guess is Bezos had something to do with it??
I'm 37 and I knew Fry's was in trouble when I saw the same exact items on the shelves that I saw in middle school. Not just the same item SKU but like the same boxes. Having 150 different flash drives in one aisle wasn't helpful either as I just wanted the best ones.
It was much much better than bestbuy!
Ouch, this hurts my soul. Used to hit up the Fry's in Anaheim on almost a monthly basis, built a number of computers from parts bought there. They even stocked Mionix products (who i'd never heard of) for a time, and got me hooked on the brand.
RIP Frys
Fry's was legit. It was a place enthusiasts could go instead of Best Buy to get worthwhile gear, and the prices were actually good, especially for a brick-and-mortar store. I'll miss it.
What if some Fry's Electronics Stores today found new life as Costco Wholesale stores, since most of the large Frys stores are literally the SAME SIZE as a Costco? But I will always miss the themed Fry's Electronics stores for years to come!! I always truly loved seeing the inside of them!! 😭😭😭😭
I am surprised why they didn't go ecommerce.
I remember going in Fry's 20 years ago and saw a 25k 100 inch plasma tv. I also saw their small Bose speaker demonstration.. I miss those days
Forgot Frys with that stupid setup they had and poor customer service. 👎
Hey bro where I find similar store to this
The Frys in Tukwila, Wa was absolutely horrible! They had the worse customer service. I was sent by my work to order 10+ laptops. They made me wait for 30mins after I had already waited in line because they needed to "verify" our payment. People working there were generally not friendly. It's nice to have physical but their prices weren't really competitive. Their networking cables were cheap, though.
I worked at this exact store for about a year (2001 – 2002) after my first enlistment in the Navy. It's oddly difficult to see it like this. I was so happy to be turning the page on my life, and had such big plans… looks like the store ended up about the same as I did. Oh well.
damn i missed this old place i remember getting an apple tv there and getting sd cards and those electronic picture frames
Wow that does not look like the fries asre remember RI[ FRYS
Just like circuit city another store that goes away
I loved Fry’s. It was the BEST place to buy electronics. Now we’re stuck with Best Buy
👎🙁
What happens with the items left behind?
You have no idea how grateful me and my friends are for this video. We've recently done some photography at the abandoned building, and it's absolutely amazing to have this video as a reference to what it looked like before it closed down. If you don't mind can we use this for a collage? Showing the before and after?
Than you for this video… I'm from Brazil and I worked in the Brazilian subsidiary of a company based in Huntington Beach, from 2002 to 2012. During this time, I had opoortunity to travel to HB many times and one of my favorites ones was to visit Fry's… sad to see they're out of the business…
